About ONGAKUKAN

Corporate History

ONGAKUKAN Co., Ltd. was founded in 1985. Originally, its main business was the leasing of recording equipment for professional use in recording studios.
Later, the company expanded its business into music production, and produced many different types of music, for advertisement and MIDI data, for example. This side of the company continues its business today as the Music Division of Ongakukan.
In 1993, Ongakukan expanded its activities to include CD-ROM software that included both music and imagery. In August, 1995, this arm of the company produced “Train Simulator”, a railway driving simulation computer game which uses live video footage of a train in operation. This technology went on to become the backbone for the production of business-grade railway simulators, which began in 2006.
In 2007, Ongakukan revealed the world's first steam locomotive driving simulator for exhibit in The Railway Museum in Omiya, Japan. To this day, it is one of the most popular feature exhibits in the museum.
Additionally, Ongakukan's professional-grade simulators are being used by railway companies as a training simulator for their drivers.
Recently, Ongakukan's activities have expanded to include more experimental activities, such as production of railway-related entertainment events, using SNS technology and live video streaming services.
